Elton John concert

May 20th Sir Elton played the Asia World Expo in Hong Kong.

He played a long set, about 2 1/2 hours. Only the last half or so was the rockn' show I was expecting. The first half was full of piano solo's and song's I didn't recognize.

For the last half the crowd was on their feet and singing along, which was more fun.

Hilary requested a phone call during Crocodile Rock. Here is a picture to match.

Bruce Lee's house

I know it doesn't look like much, but when Bruce Lee moved back to Hong Kong in the late 60's/early 70's this is where he lived until his death in 1973.

The house was called "Mui Hok Siu Juk", which means "Plum Crane, Little Bamboo". Bruce was warned before he bought the house that it had bad Feng Shui but bought it anyways. He died nearby.

It is just down the street from where I work in an area called Kowloon Tong. It has most recently been used as a love hotel (AKA rooms by the hour) but is on the market again for purchase.

Plaque on the outside wall.

Loosely translated it says,
"Kung Fu master Bruce Lee used to live here. Trespassers will be haunted by him. Stay away"

(OK I made that up)

RIP Benji

My Dad and Judy's kitty Benji died unexpectedly.

Benji was such a lovable cat. He was always happy stretched out on your shoulder or sleeping on your lap.

Benji had a naughty side though. He loved to eat things he shouldn't, like shoelaces, expensive bras, or baby blankets you were crocheting.

Benji loved to play and Suds was often guilty of getting him too wound up and attacking everything in sight. Which got him sprayed with the water bottle....Suds sprayed, that is:)

Benji will be missed!

Recipe of the Week

Suds' Brown Sugar Baked Salmon
Suds surprised me with dinner one night. This is the recipe he found and it is delish!
Very simple. We serve with rice and edamame tossed in sesame oil and fresh pepper.

Ingredients:

salmon fillets

Marinade (if cooking for one, halve the marinade)

1/2 cup packed brown sugar
4 tablespoons melted butter
3 tablespoons soya sauce
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons dry white wine or water

In a small bowl combine all marinade ingredients.

Place single layer of salmon in a glass baking dish and pour marinade over top.

Cover and marinate in refrigerator for 30 minutes -6 hours (longer is better). Uncover dish.

Place on middle rack of 400degree oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until fish is done. Do not turn fish. Serve immediately.

Vancouver in May

Sunday morning the 420's AKA The Shamrocks played a game.

James swings and misses

Suds was called on to fill in the roster

Liz up to bat.

The team won their game by an impressive margin!

Scott vs. a fly ball.

I'd say the ball won :)

After the game we delivered some dresses to Abbey and Ainsley. They looked so cute!

Our last night in Vancouver we all headed to the Kobe Steakhouse for dinner.

After an hour in the lounge we were finally shown our table

Our master chef had quite a fire going.

Shannon's new 'do

Even though our wait was so long, the food was so good everyone left happy (I hope!)

I'm glad everyone could come!

Gluttons for punishment, the 5 of us went next door to the SaltLik for chocolate lava cake and the best martini I have ever tasted, the Smiling Geisha.
