Halloween in Hong Kong

Saturday night we had our first Halloween in Hong Kong. The last 2 years I was in Vancouver to celebrate.

We signed up to be a part of the door to door giving out candy in our apartment building. We were told to expect 20 kids.
I bought an $6 imported pumpkin to carve and chocolates to hand out.
We all got dressed up, even Lexi!
The festivities were to start at 7PM. We rushed home after baseball and started to get ready. By 7:30 there were no kids and we were hungry so we made dinner. I was frantically watching the security camera channel watching for kids getting on the elevators. No kids yet.

By 8PM I was really worried. Where were the kids?

Finally at about 8:45 I see the lobby overrun with kids and all piling into the elevator!
They're coming!

I will be wearing this to school on Wednesday.
All the kids will be dressed up too!

Next thing you know, there are 20 kids and their parents at the door!

They were all amazed that WE were dressed up, too!

The parents started to take pictures of us!

Some of the kids didn't have anything to hold their candy and their hands were full.

Others just reached into the bowl and took as much as they could. It worried us cause we didn't have much candy.

After all the prep work and waiting around, it was all over in less than 5 minutes.

The pumpkin was a big hit with the kids.

Ben's Stag night

A boat cruise was organized for Ben's stag on Thursday.
10 of us spent the day on the boat getting some sun and playing poker.

Ben is back row, far left.

The boat cruised around Hong Kong island. On the South side of the island we stopped at Deep Water bay where Matthias rowed to shore to pick up a late comer.

We played poker while anchored in Deep Water Bay. I came in 2nd place, leaving with the money I bought in with!

After a quick shower and change everyone headed out for dinner and drinks in Soho. Afterwards it was LKF and Wan Chai till 7am!

Hong Kong Zoo

After returning from their trip to Thailand, the 4 of us went to the Hong Kong Zoo
The majority of exhibits were primates and lemurs. It was neat because there were several animals we had never heard of or seen before.

Some guy doing Tai Chi in the park

Ring Tailed Lemur. There were lots of these.

Black and White Ruffled Lemur. These were a highlight. They were so playfull!

Chinese crocodile

Golden Lion Tamarin
These were my favorite! They were so cute, hardly bigger than a kitten. They were so fast and playful we couldn't get a good shot.

misc stuff

The newest Benhacine only minutes after being born!
Jessica Marguerite born October 8th at 8am :)

Suds and I at the Boathouse near the airport taking advantage of the Crab Festival.
We had an awesome meal of sirloin and crab legs.

At Sushi Paradise in New West. My new fav place!! You must try the cream cheese and sun dried tomato roll or the tuna and mango roll! They have really original rolls, too bad their miso sucks!

Drugs, anyone? Just follow the signs.

This was taken at Sarah and Laurant's new place. Not the greatest shot of me, but I love pregnant Hollie in the background! I know she is into the cheese plate!!

Hilary and Theresa visit Hong Kong

Hilary and her friend Theresa have spent a week with us. They left this morning for a few days on Thailand's beaches before flying back to Canada on the 22nd.
Here are some highlights...

An hour peddle tour of Macau

Some old buildings off the escalator

Heading out on the Star Ferry towards the Big Buddha

This weekend was a Carnival theme in Lan Kwai Fong. Suds really got into the spirit!

The longest escalator ever! This was a recommendation from Judy :)

Street scene in Mong Kok where we shopped the Ladies Market

A tram car in the Hong Kong Museum of History.

We took a tour of "Whitney's Museum" AKA Hong Kong Museum of History.

It only cost 10HK!

Contrary to Whitney's belief, it is NOT near the Star Ferry :)

We found it eventually though

The nightly light show from TST and the Avenue of the Stars

Heading up the escalator to Hollywood Road

We bumped into Bruce Lee on the way up to the Peak

On the tram

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Thanksgiving feast.
Corn imported from Japan, Stove Top from Canada, cranberry sauce from the US and organic roast chicken from Australia!

I started to feel guilty about cheating on dinner, so I whipped up a pumpkin cheesecake.

Lexi liked it too!

Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope you all have some turkey and pumpkin pie this weekend!

I will be going all out, buying a little roasted chicken at the deli and making one of my prized boxes of imported Stove Top :)

If some of you are actually cooking, I hope you have a look thru my cookbook. There are lots of yummy holiday recipes in there!
hehe

PS Congrats Hilary on graduating from SFU!!
Will be seeing you in Hong Kong in 2 days!
