The other day I get a call from Ella's Aunty Leah saying they are on their way home. And they caught a fish. And the fish is coming home too. But don't worry the fish is small.
What could I possibly say to this but OK?
Home they come with a fish in a plastic baggy tied in a knot at the top. The fish is swimming (?) in about 1 cup of water.
And the fish is 6 inches long!!!!
Ella and Leah are giggling like mad telling me about how they caught it. I am not amused.
A bucket (previously used for cleaning) gets filled with some water from the hose and the fish unceremoniously dumped in.
I cannot imagine how this fish is going to survive the night. Ella keeps feeding it and wants to carry the bucket with her everywhere she goes.
"I want to show my fishy to baby Julia"
Despite the odds, Nemo is alive the next morning. But we are so busy we don't make it to the pond for release. But we do manage to watch Finding Nemo in preparation.
Day 2 and fishy is still alive. We've topped up his water from the Britta filter and are determined to release.
At approx 9 am I look out on patio and see the fish out of the bucket! He has attempted suicide! I start to point and babble incoherently and Suds saves the day (and the fish) by quickly scooping him up and tossing him in to the water.
Miraculously he starts swimming around.
I call an emergency evacuation and leave for the park. Here's the video of the successful release:)
