Taiwan mini break

First morning we arrived in Taipei.  We were up and out to the train station
Took us awhile to sort out our plan, but eventually we bought tickets to the countryside
Julia fell asleep
Here we are at Shifen.
Famous for the train tracks and working train that go right through a village.
We painted good wishes on a paper lantern and then released it.  Ella actually wrote some Chinese characters!!
Julia wrote her J's

Back on a train heading to Juifen
The buses make some tight passes!
Imagine my delight upon entering a back-alley-type market and seeing a stall selling cold filtered coffee with Amarula or Bailey's added in.  Yes please!!!
Cute kids wooden high heels....?
Time for an afternoon rest in a Japanese tea house on top a cliff.  Stunning view!

Giant cat statue.  Um, ok?
Whiskers!

Taipei 101 building

It was the world's tallest but not anymore

Views from the top
Teppannaki for dinner.  This was a huge hit with all of us!
Our chef had some serious eyebrow skills.  Can you zoom in?
Dinner was so yummy.  We all ate till we rolled off our chairs, an amazing feat for all of us at one meal
Mailing postcards.  Who did we send to?

In a gondola near the Taipei zoo.  We had a glass bottomed one, which the kids loved.  Here Julia is smiling after eating an Oreo type cookie.  Black teeth :(  So we told her no teeth for the next one

Laying on the gondola floor

At the zoo.  It was a HUGE zoo and cost about $2us for us to enter, and I think the kids were free.

Pygmy hippos.  They were so small
This man made us a yummy fried egg roti sandwich thing.  we ate 2 :)  and now make them at home, too.  But they are not as good as on the street in Taiwan!

Moving hotels and spending a night in the hotspring area.
Geysers behind us

Free public hot tub for feet and legs.  I wish I took a photo of the other people, all local senior citizens.  they schooled us fast on common hot tub etiquette even though they didn't speak English.
It was HOT!
Hot spring running through the town

Major feet wrinkles.
We had a hot tub in our room.
