Here is Table Mountain. It dominates the scenery of Cape Town. The clouds are covering it, but the top is as flat as a table. You can take a cable car up to the top, or you can hike it. Marlan, our homeowner, warned us it was dangerous to hike it alone because people hide in the bushes and rob you!
This is Clifton Beach. It is one of the most expensive places to vacation in the area. The sand is powdery white. The water is COLD, too cold to swim in without a wetsuit! It is on the Atlantic Ocean. The beach was filled with high school aged locals, none of whom I got in the shot!
This is Camps Bay, another pricey spot. The waves are larger here and break closer to the shore, so there were fewer sunbathers. All along the shore are surf stores and restaurants.
When you walk down to the beach from teh road there are larger signs saying tha area has CCTV cameras and Armed Response ready and on the way. No crime will be tolerated. It makes you feel safe and unsafe at the same time.
Matthias quickly found us a German restaurant to enjoy a Paulaner beer. This is on the V&A Waterfront. We watched a swing bridge working to let larger boats thru the canal. Very touristy with lots of seafood restaurants and shops. We had dinner at a place Gill reccommended, Whillowby's. It was fabulous!
The next day Suds and I drove all the way to the Southern tip of South Africa. This shot has Clifton and Camps Bay and Lion's Head peak in the background. It is amazing how everywhere has gorgeous soft white sand and stunning water. The towns focal point always seems to be the sea. The trip was upposed to tkae 1 1/2 hours but took us 5!! Too many stops for scenic shots and beaches to check out.
Just outside the national park Cape of Good Hope park we saw this sight! We had seen many signs warning us not to feed the baboons; they are dangerous. Here we pulled over for another scenic shot and see a baboon has taken residence on this poor fellows car! All of us watching were laughing hysterically! He finally managed to scare the sucker off. We saw tons of baboons lining the roadway, even little baby baboons; so cute!
This is Boulders and the African Penguins. There were so many of them! It is moulting season, so there are few funny looking ones, all ruffled and spotted. They were very quiet and mostly paired off in couples.
See the moulting penguins? All fluffed up and ugly!
